What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Pitch Feedback - 

The pitch feedback we got a few months ago really helped kick start this project, it was mainly positive as the band name, character names and back ground stories really worked well together especially for our chosen genre, the record label was well thought out and everything just seemed to fit well with each-other, however we didn’t think of any theories e.g Goodwin or logos/other iconic symbols. After listening to these changes we then started on improving the pitch in order to create a better music video.

For my Digi Pak the most important feedback I got was the minor changes I had to make in order to improve it. There wasn’t anything that really ruined the Digi Pak and overall it was very successful and looked like a genuine rock band’s Digi Pak.
Positive feedback consisted of many people liking the colour scheme and the photographs used of the band shots aswell as the edgy distorted pictures and patterns, these all interweaved with one another creating a very rocky feel.
Negative feedback originally consisted on changes that had to be made in order to make it an authentic Digi Pak, for example in my first draft I forgot to add things like the record company and barcode however those changes have now been made.

For my poster the most important feedback I got which helped me improve it was moving titles and logos around in order for a better fit plus emphasising who they band are and what the poster is promoting. I think my poster now is much better and when shown along side the music video and Digi Pak you can really see how well they work together and they look like authentic media products.

From our first draft we got very positive student and teacher feedback. The majority of the class really enjoyed the performance and how well the video looked in the sense that it follow the codes and conventions of the narrative. Another part of the music video that worked well was the editing and the shots that were used all highlighted the stereotypes within this music genre, for an example lots of head banging was emphasised especially on heavy parts of the song. One improvement the audience noted was how the narrative needed to be more worked on more and as cinematographer I knew it was essential to film more narrative shots therefore we planned a reshoot but it was not successful as the weather was completely different to our previous footage, some shots were useable however I’d give a another chance to improve this video I think our narrative could have been a lot better in that sense.

Evaluation Question 4

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? 

We used media technologies from the very beginning of this project to find inspiration, plan our music video and create our music video. 

YouTube was our main source for finding inspiration for our music video. Once we had picked a genre we would watch music videos from that genre to gain some sort of idea of what we want to create. Doing this gave each of us an image on what we thought we could create so from there we brainstormed all of our ideas. Putting them together to construct a final idea that we would then create.  

One the group members (Harry) would use Apple music (Media Technology) to listen to loads of music from that genre trying to find the song which we could create a music video for. This is how we found our chosen song 'Back to me' by 'Of Mice and Men'. 

To Construct our music video the lead cinematographer (Tommy) used a Sony A6000 to film everything. To edit the video the lead editor (Max) used Adobe's Premier Pro which allowed us to create the desired effects of slow motion and colour correction.  

Adobe Photoshop was used a lot during this project as we had to use it to create our Digi Pak and posters (Ancillary Texts).  Photoshop allowed us to tamper with the colours along with brightness and contrast of our images to make sure they looked exactly how we wanted them to.  

DaFont was the name of the website we used to find the font that we thought matched our genre of music video. We picked out 5-6 that we liked and thought worked and then gave out a questionnaire asking 'which of these fonts do you think best suits a rock genre music video.  

Blogger was used throughout the entire process of this project to record all the progress we were making towards creating our final creative piece.  

The media technologies that we used for our evaluation were Word Documents, a video and a voice note.

Blind Faith Poster - NEW Information

This/the enlarged picture below is my final draft for my music poster, after getting more feedback I had to make some minor changes in order to improve it more.

The changes I made are -
Title placement changes
Rise records logo moved to the bottom and minimized

I'm very pleased with this piece of work - all the information I have said on this and why wanted this look can be found through my progression of creating a Digi Pak on my blog.

Production log 3

The next shooting will most likely be our final Girl shooting as we do not need that much more footage of her. I want to get some shots of her walking towards something/someone as we need to close the narrative.

This is my final draft for my digipak. I am very pleased with it and I believe it looks authentic and real.
All the information ive said on this Digipak can be found throughout the progress of making it in other blogs.

Blind Faith poster (OLD)

This is the poster for the release of my band "The Watchmen"'s new album "Blind Faith". It is completed however it isn't my final draft because i'm sure there could be improvements I can make after I get feedback from peers and my teacher.

The picture on the front page is also the DigiPak's cover therefore the audience and product consumers know this image relates to the Blind Faith Album.

I like this image due to the blackout of the main vocalist's eyes, this effect links with the album title and I feel it it really suites the bands image.

Film Shoot - Narrative

Last week myself Max Harry and George started filming more of the narrative side of our music video. We filmed our friend Niamh walking around Danson Park looking very lost and sad ( this is because she is thinking about the main vocalist and their relationship). We got some really good shots of that convey how sad she really is.The performance itself from Niamh was done really well however we are going to have to reshoot because we need more footage and currently the story behind the video isn't as clear as it could be.

Digi Pak complete (OLD)

This is my completed Digipak however there may be minor adjustments I have to make once I have feedback. I'm really happy with it and I think it looks cool and suits my band really well. I love how on the front panel, Harry's eyes are blacked out due to the lighting and the way the picture was shot because it matches the text of my album cover below (Blind Faith). I love how the dominant colours are red and black because i think this style compliments my bands genre.

Digi Pak draft 2 (incomplete)

This is my second draft for creating my Digi pak, already i've seen progress and i'm finding it a lot easier to use photoshop because i'm getting used to it now. This draft is still incomplete and is likely to be my final piece once it is finished. I really like the images chosen and I think the red, black and white colour scheme really goes well with my band and its genre. The hand was originally horizontal but when playing around with the rotation tool I found that it looked much better reaching upwards.
the top left and top right panels are going to be where i have the disc slots, although this is unusual I think it will look really cool once the image of the lead singer (Harry) is put in between these two panels. I am planning to edit Harry's face by scratching out his eyes and blanking his mouth which will look really sinister and suit the album idea of being called Blind Faith. The back panel will be just black and have the song names on it because I want the majority of the colour to be on the inside, the front panel however will be a full band shot so my audience and potential buyers know who they are straight away.

First draft Digi pak (failure)

This first draft idea fro a digi pak was a complete failure. When if first got the idea for my digi pak to have an Eclipse base design I thought it would look really cool however it was hard to make what I wanted so I've changed my idea and i'm thinking of new drafts I can make in order to have a better digi pak for my final outcome.
although it is annoying I couldn't actually make my idea without it looking tacky and unprofessional in some ways it is good because I can learn from mistakes, my ideas have broadened, my photoshop skills have improved and I have progressed in this task.

We are planning to film and reshoot the band scenes on Thursday, this is because there is still much more room for improvement after watching the footage over and there is shots I need to film which I forget to capture last time. I need to focus of filming more individual shots of characters playing their instruments within the right time in the song, for example I need to film Luke perform a guitar solo.
All members will be able to film and the drama room is free on this date so there is no problem there.

Equipment that we will need to use will be:
A Tripod
A Steady Cam
A DSLR Camera
Spare Batteries
Camera Light

Equipment that we will need as props will be:
Drum Kit
Electric Bass
Electric Guitar
Microphone / Mic Stand
Amplifiers
Jack to Jack Cables.

Once again we will probably book out two cameras so that we can have two people filming at once which speeds up the whole process. Obviously we have to consider not getting in each others way but i'm sure we can work around that.  We will likely book out a tri-pod too incase theres any full band shots or and shots that need to be steady with ease. A steady cam might also be needed if there are any shots that require a steady hand, so if we are including a lot of motion in our camera movement we want to avoid getting too much camera shake. Lastly we will need to book out the LED light that places on top of the camera. The reason we use this light is because when trying to film close ups of the band we noticed that the shadow of the camera and the camera man was being shown in the frame. This was because the lights being used to light the scene were behind us. Using the LED light was helpful as it got rid of that shadow. George k, Tommy d, Max r, Harry l

The First Shoot

The First Shoot -

The first shoot was very successful, we played around with the lighting in order to find what would work best and I came to the conclusion of having low key lighting yet on the camera the footage came out just slightly too dark so before filming anymore we turned the lights up a little bit just to make the footage clear.

I filmed the whole band playing the full song (on a tripod) through the use of a wide shot because this can be the basic footage max can refer back to when editing.
My favourite shot I filmed was a high angle shot of Tom hitting the drums on the bass drop because it looked so powerful, however I think I may need to re film this shot in our next take because the camera wasn't in full focus when I watched the footage back.
Im also glad the intro tracking shot and the close ups of the band members rocking out went well.

One problem we faced was the drama room had drama related props and boards everywhere so in order to over come this we moved stuff out of the way and made sure nothing was in the camera shot.
