Planning of Music Video

In Today's lesson I began to annotate the lyrics for 'Back To Me' (my groups chosen to song to create a music video for). While I did this Max and Harry started the process of story boarding. The lyric annotation's I made inspired me to think of different shots that will link both sound (lyrics and Instrumentation) and cinematography together in the right time/place.

Background Story - Watchmen

There are five members in the band Watchmen:
Jordan Tuck - Main Vocalist
Alex Stone - Guitarist
Jesse Axen - Back up Guitarist
Ace Mckinnon - Bass Guitarist
Tom Bane - Drummer

These 5 artists are best friends from California, Sacramento, that met in high school and bonded over their love for music and performing.'Where the sun goes' was the original band name, they performed at gigs while growing up. The band split up in 2014 due to members having jobs and responsibilities they was committed to however they still got together to produce music in free time. In January 2016 the 5 best friends formed a new band called 'The WATCHMEN'. The band has a rock/metal sound with nu-metal influences creating a sound people can rock out to. In March 2016 a large independent record label called Sumerian signed a contract with the band after they caught the labels attention from performing in local club. The contract gave the band an opportunity to create a full album with their single 'Back To Men' due to be released late 2017.

Bands that have influenced The Watchmen - Bring me the Horizon, Stone Sour, Linkin Park and Royal Blood.

Postmodernism is where you take something from a previous era and reference it in an updated form of media.
An example of this in the music industry is when you reference a film or music video within the current music video but slightly updating it so its easier to consume.

The three genre styles are -

Postmodern - make fun of these trends with the use of parodies etc.
Experimental - establishing trends
Cannon - woks within those trends to fix them and turn them into our cultural understanding


These references made in the music videos are using intertextuality. This is done to possibly appeal and attract a larger audience, therefore giving the music video more publicity. These references could appeal to a bigger audience because the reference to the older text will allow older audiences to relate to that context. As its already updated the younger and current audience will already be attracted to the product.

An example of a postmordenist would be Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' and Madonna's 'Express Yourself'.

Genre - Rock

The genre we want to chose a music video for is going to be rock. This is because there is members in our group who heavily love rock music and feel most comfortable doing this genre. Personally I am not the biggest fan of rock music however I agreed to this genre because i believe we can make a really cool narrative for the music video and i'm intrigued by this new experience of filming.

The mood board we created is full of images that relate to our chosen song " Back To Me " by Of Mice and Men. Some images on the mood board are possible filming locations where as others relate to the genre of our song of which is rock.

This is the feedback my class was given, I understand how my blogger account needs a lot of work and variety instead of just written based blogs. To progress from this i am planning to devote more time to blogging to ensure I am up to date and my blogs are to a better standard.

Song Choice

The song my group have chosen to make a music video for is " Back to me " by Of Mice and Men.

This Song does have a music video already however it is only a live performance where as we are planning to interweave a live performance of our band playing the song while a story takes place. We want both live performance and narrative in our music video, to do this we need to take a lot of different shots and use cuts regularly.
